The author presents the map as inspired by, not a reproduction of, the Baronnies Provençales in southeastern France. The 10 km square rises from 10 to 790 m, with forested valleys in the north and centre and bare, eroded ridges across the south. Lakes sit in the southwest and southeast, with more water on the western edge. About 2,400 buildings form small villages and compounds in the central and northern valleys, linked by 203 km of roads. Suits infantry and light vehicle operations over broken ground.
