The author says it recreates the left bank of Kupyansk, eastern Ukraine. The main town lies west of centre beside a winding north–south channel, and a village spreads along roads in the northeast. Patchy forest belts fill the centre and south. It holds 1,976 buildings and 327 km of roads. Wide hedged fields with little else cover the east and the western edge, and reddish-brown bare patches fill an oval area in the southeast. It suits infantry fights in town and woods, with open ground for vehicles.
