The author presents it as Marken, a former Dutch island. The 4 km world is mostly water around one flat island running from southwest to east. A village with a small harbour sits on the west coast, with woods to its north. The east and south are open, ditch-lined fields with scattered farms. About 10 km of roads include causeways leaving the north and south edges. A darker, low-detail landmass fills the northeast. It suits small infantry fights through the village with exposed approaches across fields.
