Overview map of Normandy

The author presents it as Normandy, June 1944, with a town inspired by Sainte-Mère-Église. A wide sand beach runs along the north coast. Inland, hedged fields and woods cover low ground of 10 to 80 m. The only town sits southeast of centre; farm hamlets are scattered elsewhere. 94 km of roads and tracks connect them. A river winds south from the town to a southern inlet, beside a dark marshy area. No imagery gaps are visible. It suits beach assaults and infantry fighting through hedgerows and the town.
