The author says it is part fictional, part based on the real Vainikkala, Finland. Dense forest covers most of the 3.6 km square, with about 78 km of roads and tracks. A railway and a river cross it from northwest to southeast, with a rail yard in the northwest. A large lake lies in the west and farm fields line the southwest. The 185 buildings sit in small scattered clusters, with no town. Some fields show flat teal ground resembling placeholder texture. It suits infantry patrols and small-unit forest fighting.
